Why I am not leaving social media
My primary reason for starting this substack is to redirect myself from wasting time responding to social media posts. I think about all of the accumulated time given to these platforms without any reciprocity.
Why this, why now?
I recently lost my Facebook account after 17 years. Why? Because while I was on my way home from teaching, my account was hacked and swiftly deleted by Meta before I had any chance to investigate. The sense of loss was shocking, and I realized that nobody should willingly give their data to these entities without having alternative repositories for their memories, reflections, and the like. Of course, there are the typical gripes I could give regarding the awful inundation of cultural war filth that dominates my feed. And I certainly do not wish to be one of those serial “I’m leaving this platform for a while” people. So no, I am not leaving social media. But I am taking a vow to place most of my energy toward handling my own data. This seems like one of the best places to do it.
A portal to the Portal.
This substack is my personal portal that connects to my various ventures such as The Proximity Portal, a YouTube Channel and online community that explores the realms of faith, culture, and creativity. The articles that I publish here will also be distributed on the Portal’s social media pages.
I consider this post to be a prequel to my first real initial introduction. I look forward to this journey and engaging with my readers.
